Dream big, but live enormously.
For some, that may be a catchphrase. But for Austin Abair, it’s a lifestyle.
The University of Michigan-Dearborn student dares to take risks in order to achieve his ultimate purpose in life. He also strives to nurture hope and promote positive change in others.
And that’s why Austin is a “Difference Maker.”
“Wake up thankful for every opportunity that has crossed your path. End each day knowing you did the best you could,” he said.
Austin’s positive mindset has opened up plenty of doors for him at UM-Dearborn. He’s landed a spot on the dean’s list six times. That academic success has earned him plenty of scholarships, which helped him continue his studies at UM-Dearborn.
Austin is a member of several student organizations, and he helped organize UM-Dearborn’s Supply Chain Association.
“Austin has made a great difference in getting a new student organization going,” said Gerald Holowicki, management studies lecturer. “He is a wonderful human being with a very fine, humble, teachable and mature approach. In my opinion, I wish there were a lot more students like Austin.”
Austin’s career aspirations involve becoming a consultant, so he can help corporations, small businesses and individuals operate efficiently.
He’s benefited from UM-Dearborn’s academic environment, and said someday he wants “to teach others with the same passion my professors have shared with me.”
But it’s not all about consulting and teaching for Austin. He has plenty of hobbies, like cycling. Soon, he plans to take that hobby to the next level and become a professional cyclist.
But no matter where Austin’s future leads him, he has one overlying goal.
“When I grow up, I want to know that I made a difference,” he said.
