When Michelle McGuckin transferred to UM-Dearborn, her goal was to have a “robust” college experience.
“I am not content with living in the background,” she said.
And, she certainly doesn’t.
Michelle has a passion for active living and loves a good challenge. She goes the extra mile to engage in classroom discussions and to learn from her professors.
“The material I have learned in the classroom has been exciting,” said the supply chain management senior. “On the other hand, outside of the classroom, my professors are a stimulating resource.”
Her passion for learning is obvious—she’s earned a spot on the Dean’s List every semester.
She’s also always willing to her peers. Michelle helps students prepare for interviews, perfect their resumes, understand how to lead a student organization and learn statistics. She even teaches fitness.
“I have gained the most knowledge by giving back,” she explained. “I have met some great students who have taught me things I cannot learn in the classroom.”
On campus, she’s the president of the Supply Chain Association (SCA) and works effortlessly to promote and grow the organization. She has already tripled their membership.
“Under her leadership, the organization has become more vibrant and stable,” said Gerald Holowicki, College of Business lecturer. “I have been impressed with the fact that both academically and in student organizations, whenever Michelle makes a commitment, she always keeps it. That is outstanding integrity.”
Michelle has a bright future ahead but no matter where it leads her, she plans to do two things: continue to learn and give back.
Upon graduation, she’ll join Chrysler’s manufacturing leadership development program. She’s also preparing to begin the Master’s program in the fall.
Michelle already looks forward giving back to UM-Dearborn as an alumni.
“I look forward to coming back to campus to share useful knowledge and experience with students.”
